FIVE ISLANDS

Nova Scotia

BACK TO THUMBNAILS

<PREV         NEXT>

Red rock landscapes are rare in most of Canada but they are easy to find in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

Here at Five Islands Provincial Park red sandstone is mixed with black basalt to form a landscape you would expect to find in the southwestern USA’s Colorado Plateau.

Only the Bay of Fundy’s waters in the background provide a clue that this might be a different place entirely.

Erosion at Five Islands occurs in real time...sand and stones actively fall down this cliff making camera protection necessary.
